Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield police were called to 11th and Carpenter streets around noon Tuesday for a report of a bicyclist being hit by a stolen ambulance.

Officers told our news partners at WAND TV that the bicyclist was taken to a local hospital but refused treatment. The ambulance, according to the police, was stolen from the ambulance bay at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Kurt J. Dumyahn, 38, reportedly returned to the hospital in the stolen ambulance after the incident, and he was arrested there. Dumyahn faces charges of motor vehicle theft and aggravated battery.
