Jacksonville, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A fire in downtown Jacksonville Thursday morning will cause a historic building to be torn down.
According to a news release from the Jackville Fire Department, fire broke out at 342 W. State Streed around 6:00 a.m. The department described the structure as a three-story abandoned building.
A search of the building was conducted, and no one was found inside, said firefighters.
The building has been deemed unsafe, partially from the fire and partially from years of decay, authorities said, and is set to be demolished.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No one was hurt. Authorities said late Thursday morning that the public should continue to avoid the area.
