Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The sponsor of a new bill to have insurance cover speech therapy knows Big Insurance will take a dim view of it.
“The industry is always sensitive to any change in the insurance code,” said State Sen. Willie Preston (D-Chicago). “However, what I perceive this bill to be is that the greater interest is ensuring that the children in particular have a greater opportunity to be contributing members to society.”
Preston says he was a stutterer as a child – and one of his own children could not speak until almost age six. Preston said it’s not fair that not all children have a chance to overcome it.
