(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Any idea of adding a sales tax to services in Illinois is a non-starter with small businesses. From the National Federation of Independent Business, state director Noah Finley leaves no doubt.
“A service tax would be a tax on small businesses and their customers, taking money out of local communities all across the state to fund ongoing bloated and mismanaged programs,” said Finley. “Last year we had the largest state tax revenues on record, and we need to learn to live within our means instead of taking money from our communities, from our small businesses, to be spent by Springfield bureaucrats.”
Neither lawmakers nor the governor like this idea, floated a little more than a week ago by a “policy spotlight” from the University of Illinois’ Institute of Government and Public Affairs. So for now, oil changes and legal services – along with haircuts and dry cleaning – remain tax-free.
