Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Illinois visit by Texas Democrat lawmakers has not been peaceful.

“There was a bomb threat at a hotel that some of them are staying at,” Gov. JB Pritzker said Wednesday. “There was a right-wing podcaster who took a video of where they’re staying, posted it, put a map up to point out exactly what hotel they’re at. That happened before the bomb threat was issued.”

As for the issue at hand, redistricting, Pritzker referred to the five districts President Donald Trump wants to flip Republican. “They’re five districts that are legal under the Voting Rights Act that are represented by Black and brown people and represent Black and brown people.”

A day after laughing off concerns about Illinois maps as the work of kindergarteners, the governor defended the maps as fair, pointing to Downstate districts now represented by U.S. Reps. Nikki Budzinski (D-Springfield) and Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) as races which could have gone either way in 2022.

The governor spoke Wednesday after unveiling the butter cow on the eve of the Illinois State Fair.
