Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — A new face is stepping into a top leadership role at St. John’s Hospital. Hospital Sisters Health System has named Brian Brennan as the new president and CEO of the hospital as well as the HSHS Central Illinois Market.
As market president, Brennan will oversee strategy and operations at five HSHS hospitals across central Illinois. These include hospitals in Decatur, Effingham, Litchfield, Shelbyville, and Springfield.
Brennan has more than 20 years of health care leadership experience. He most recently served as chief operating officer for Baylor Scott and White Healthcare in Austin, Texas. Before that, he held a similar role at UT Health East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
According to HSHS, Brennan has helped hospitals grow, improved patient care systems, and worked closely with medical teams to raise care standards. He holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of South Florida and a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He is also board-certified in healthcare management.
“I’m excited to return to the Midwest and be part of a health system with a strong mission of care and service,” Brennan said. “I am looking forward to becoming an active member of the Springfield community by getting involved with many of the local organizations.”
Brennan and his wife, Emilee, will be relocating to Springfield in the coming weeks. He will begin on May 27.
