Champaign, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski, who serves Illinois’ 13th Congressional District and is a resident of Springfield, confirmed this week that her name appeared in the personal notes of a Minnesota murder suspect accused of targeting Democratic politicians.

According to Budzinski’s office, Vance Boelter, who was arrested Sunday, is suspected of killing former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in their home early Saturday. The suspect allegedly had a list of at least 45 Democratic state and federal officials across Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and other states.

Budzinski said she was contacted by U.S. Capitol Police after the discovery. She addressed the situation on social media, expressing sorrow over the deaths and condemning political violence. “There is absolutely no place in this country for political violence,” Budzinski stated. “We must be a nation that values civility and mutual respect – always.”

Authorities have not said whether there was any direct threat made against Budzinski or others on the list. The investigation into the suspect’s motives is ongoing.
