Around 30 professional wrestlers and about 1000 spectators came to Robin Roberts Stadium for what organizers hope with be the 1st annual Capital City Clash.
It was an event organized by the Lucky Horseshoes ownership as part of their effort to get maximum use out of the venerable stadium.
Lots of excitement and energy as fans got to meet their wrestling heroes before the seven matches began.
The competitors come from around the world to try for the coveted trophy belt from their respective leagues.
WTAX News spoke with one young lady from Australia, Shazza McKenzie. She said when she was young she loved performing; singing, acting, etc. but once she saw pro wrestling on TV she knew she had found her calling.
Lucky Horseshoes co-owner, Jeff Jarret, is a legend, both in and out of the ring. He held over 80 titles during his long career but now focuses on his work as a third-generation promoter.
However, Saturday night Jeff put on the spandex once again to climb into the ring and show the youngsters how it’s done. His lovely wife, Karen, is at his side and she’s not afraid to jump into the ring if her man gets into trouble. And, yes, Jeff says in his stage persona of ‘Country Legend’, Double J he would be bringing is trusty guitar, El Kabong, and while Jeff says he may not be singing, he will be swinging that guitar.
Jamie Toole, chief storyteller for the ‘Shoes says he’s not an athlete but if somebody gets out of hand he wouldn’t be above jumping into the ring to, ‘Story-tell their behind”!
