Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For Springfield’s hometown basketball hero, Andre Iguodala, it all started at the Boys and Girls Club.
“He is a Boys and Girls Club kid that honed his skills in our gym, summer after summer and in the after-school program,” said Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois executive director and CEO Tiffany Mathis Posey (pictured, second from left). “For him to then rise to what he has grown to become is super huge, and, because he is a Club kid, that elevates all Boys and Girls Clubs, and. most certainly our club.”
A ceremony Tuesday at the local clubs’ administrative building on Jefferson Street marked Iguodala’s induction into the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Hall of Fame. Iguodala recently completed a nearly two-decade pro basketball career. The Lanphier High School product is now acting executive director of the NBA Players Association.
Jefferson Street downtown carries the honorary designation “Andre Iguodala Drive.”
