Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A home near Lincoln Park – where cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post spent the first three years of her life – could gain landmark status.

Bob Immel of the Springfield Historic Sites Commission told aldermen, “Although she only lived in Springfield until she was three, she held a special fondness for her birthplace. the Kings’ Daughters purchased her childhood home, and the Post family contributed to the Kings’ Daughters home for decades.”

The historic designation for 541 E. Black Ave. faces a final vote next Tuesday.

The home’s current owners, led by Yolonda Rice, want to convert it into an apartment house for student nurses.
