Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – An investigation is underway after Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon says human remains were found in Springfield Thursday night.

Not many details are known, but Allmon says the remains were found in a wooded area near South MacArthur Boulevard and West Wabash Avenue.

Allman says an autopsy will be performed Friday, and the identity of the victim is still pending.

Springfield Police are also investigating.
