Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the Springfield man who died after being found unresponsive in his jail cell. Jeffrey T. Lapping, 55, was discovered alone in his Sangamon County Jail cell on Tuesday and transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 9 a.m.

An autopsy conducted on Tuesday revealed no evidence of injury or trauma. Preliminary findings suggest Lapping died of natural causes, though toxicology studies are still pending. The death remains under investigation.
