Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Nationally known civil rights attorney Ben Crump was joined by the family of Sonya Massey at the Springfield NAACP Monday afternoon following the release of bodycam footage.

Former Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson is seen in the footage shooting Massey in her home on Hoover Avenue on July 6.

Crump said the video is “troubling on every level” and Black women “don’t get consideration or respect in America.” Massey’s father James Wilburn also addressed the media and said, “You killed the wrong Black woman this time!” Wilburn called for Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell to resign within 12 hours. He also pushed for the passing the George Floyd Policing Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
