Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Ald. Roy Williams says CWLP is not doing enough to get the public into the loop. Williams Tuesday shared his concerns Tuesday with chief utility engineer Doug Brown.

Here’s part of the exchange:

Williams: “Just do some civic engagement with the groups so that they can have their say and help persuade some of this. I’m hearing things like, you serve in capacities that is a natural conflict of which you are deciding on how we operate. So to eliminate all that, we’ve got to be transparent.”
Brown: “I would say that is a false statement. I don’t really want to hear that.”
Williams: “I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Brown: “That’s not true.”
Williams: “But that’s why we have public and be transparent.”
Brown: “That’s not public engagement. That’s somebody accusing me of not doing my job.”

This came up as Brown asked the council to approve a $13 million per year, 25-year contract for solar power. A final vote is scheduled for May 6.
