Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – CWLP’s Lake Security Patrol is conducting courtesy safety checks this weekend at boat launches around Lake Springfield. As part of the checks, they will review required safety equipment and watercraft registrations. CWLP Lake Security personnel will also answer questions and provide boating safety tips.
CWLP is reminding those using the lake that all watercraft that is used, kept or stored on Lake Springfield or its marginal lands must be registered and licensed in accordance with all City of Springfield and State of Illinois requirements including the following: All boats must be equipped with a paddle or oar; a pump or bailer; an anchor with at least 50 feet of line; and at least one U.S. Coast Guard approved personal floatation device for each person in the boat. Motorboats must also have a U.S. Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher; a horn or whistle; and an operable lighting system. In addition, motorboat batteries must be secured and covered with non-conductive shielding.

CWLP’s Lindsay Boat Licensing Station (217-786-4075) is open for the 2024 season for boat licenses for Lake Springfield and can also conduct boat inspections and provide assistance during operating hours.
