SPRINGFIELD, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — A Decatur man has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of burglaries at gaming locations across Sangamon County.
In the early morning hours of Sept. 29, Sangamon County deputies responded to burglar alarms at three businesses: Gusto’s Pizza in Dawson, Hilltop Convenience Store in Rochester, and Miss Kimmee’s in Springfield. Surveillance footage from the locations showed a lone individual forcing entry or attempting to break in.
Detectives determined the same person was responsible for all three incidents. Using evidence from area surveillance cameras and other sources, investigators identified the suspect as 37-year-old Brent E. Crockett, according to an official press release from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, an arrest warrant was issued for Crockett on charges including two counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, and four counts of criminal damage to property. The next day, Crockett was taken into custody at the Piatt County Courthouse in Monticello.
Crockett will be transported to Sangamon County for an initial court appearance.
Crockett has a criminal history, including a seven-year sentence for burglary in Macon County in 2022. He was released on parole in March and was still on parole when the Sangamon County burglaries occurred. His record also includes previous prison sentences for narcotics and firearms-related offenses.
