(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The cheers in Chicago Tuesday morning were for Erin Compton.
“Congratulations, everyone!” she proclaimed. “We did it!”
Compton, who works for the Chicago Cubs through an organization called Angels for Hire, was part of a bill-signing ceremony for the Dignity in Pay Act. It phases out the sub-minimum wage (over five years) for the developmentally disabled.
In Springfield, a major employer in this case is Sparc.
In signing the bill, Gov. JB Pritzker said the new law “is closing an era of an outdated two-tiered wage system that lets disabled workers make less money for their hard work.”
Compton summed it up: “This law helps make financial and vocational wellness possible for all!”
