Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – District 186 may be asking Sangamon County for just over $124 million from property taxes with the 2024 tax levy. That’s a 4.75% increase from last year.
Property taxes account for more than half of the district’s total budgeted revenue. Director of Business Services Steve Miller presented the numbers at Monday night’s school board meeting and said salaries and health insurance costs have both increased. “Those two items are a good 80% of our budget. We have to match those increases with revenues.”
Miller says if approved, the increase could cost someone with a $150,000 home an additional $127 in annual property taxes, or about $11 a month. A public hearing, followed by a board vote, is set for Dec. 2.
