Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says he is weary of government shutdown threats followed by last-minute rescues. The latest turn was President Trump’s cancellation of a meeting with Congressional leaders to discuss it.

“So the clock is ticking,” said Durbin, with reporters in Springfield Wednesday. “Sept. 30 is the end of this fiscal year, and I thought if we started a bipartisan conversation now, we could hit that target. But the President’s decision to cancel the meeting is a real setback.”

On the connection the President asserts between Tylenol and autism, Durbin said, “The President may have many skills and many talents, but he is not a medical researcher. He is not a scientist, and when he stands in front of a microphone and can barely pronounce the name of acetaminophen and then suggests to pregnant mothers the cautions they ought to take in using it, I am thinking to myself, where do you get off doing this? You have no skill or talent in this area.”
