Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s too early for campaign signs … in the opinion of Springfield Ald. Roy Williams (pictured). City ordinance says you can’t post a sign for an event more than sixty days before the event. The election is five months from now.
“They couldn’t go up until sixty days” prior, said Williams. “My questions deal with this timeline, because there are several in my ward now, and if they ain’t supposed to be there, they need to come down until the sixty” days leading up to the November election.
Corporation counsel Greg Moredock had some bad news for Williams.
“I do believe that political signs are listed under an exempt sign,” Moredock said, “which would exempt the political signs from the requirement. I believe that’s what the 2011 amendment was intended to do.”
In other words, get used to those signs.
