Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Faith Coalition for the Common Good held an outdoor “Community Day Event” on Saturday afternoon at their Kansas St. headquarters

During the “Community Day Event,” stakeholders in the community come together to provide resources for families and with art and fun activities for the kids.

It was hosted by the Faith Coalition for the Common Good’s Transformational Justice task force. The Transformational Justice task force’s goal is to assist in justice equity by supplying resources to the community in Springfield.

Organizer Quintor Dennison tells WTAX News she wanted to hear what the community wants in their area and to provide resources for them.

There were a lot of fun activities for kids including arts and crafts, board games, frisbee, water sport, and plenty of hotdogs and hamburgers but also resources for the grown-ups. Booths were set up to provide information on the many services Sangamon County provides to help those in need.

One such group is Sojourn House. Ron Homan with the 50-year-old organization says his group is focused on helping victims of domestic violence or abuse.
He says they provide counseling services, shelter, court advocacy and, he says, they just launched a new website which Homan says is primarily intended to help people who have had to flee a dangerous situation with no more than the clothes on their backs.
