Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Parents who rely on District 186‘s SCOPE program to take care of their kids over the summer will have to dig deeper.

“We are recommending, after our last meeting and lots of conversation, that weekly fees increase to $155 per child for the summer programming.” superintendent Jennifer Gill told the school board Monday. “This runs an entire school day all the way until 6pm for families who are needing that, so they can come at seven in the morning and stay until six.”

The board went along with Gill’s request on a 6-0 vote, with board president Micah Miller abstaining because of a conflict of interest. The current fee is $125 a week. The district is already trying to bring the SCOPE budget into line after previously considering outsourcing the popular program to the YMCA.
