Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — A $5.3 million road improvement project will begin Wednesday on Fifth Street from Spruce Street to Ash Street.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the project will include resurfacing, pavement replacement, and sidewalk upgrades. Two traffic signals at the intersections of Fifth and Ash streets and Fifth and Laurel streets will also be replaced.
During the work, traffic on Fifth Street will be reduced to one lane. Access to Ash and Laurel streets from Fifth Street will be limited. On-street parking will be restricted, and access to some business entrances and driveways may be affected at times.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
