Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The extent of damage isn’t known after fire broke out Friday morning near the back side of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Details haven’t been released, but eyewitnesses on scene say it appeared that a car hit a gas line on Madison near 6th in the 7 a.m. hour, causing the road to be blocked off and fire that caused some thick smoke that firefighters were able to get out.

The museum opened on time according to officials, as any damage didn’t impact the public areas.

It’s believed one person was injured, but that’s not yet official.
