Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Frank Lesko will be doing double duty as both the Springfield City Clerk and Sangamon County Recorder. Lesko was sworn in at the Sangamon County Building Monday morning by Judge Ryan Cadigan.
Lesko said he will not be collecting any salary or benefits from Sangamon County if he is required to continue both positions based on decisions beyond his control. He adds that he will put in the necessary hours and efforts to have both offices functioning effectively for both the city and county taxpayers, while any external issues are resolved.
After the final mail-in ballots and provisional ballots were counted on Nov. 19, Lesko prevailed by 31 votes over incumbent Josh Langfelder. Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray announced Monday afternoon that a petition for a recount in the recorder’s race was filed on behalf of Josh Langfelder.

As to the recount requested by Josh Langfelder, Lesko said “I want him to do whatever he needs to do to feel whole in the process.”
Lesko, who plans to submit his resignation from the city once the election process is complete, said he will focus his full attention on his new county position once the city has a transitional plan in place.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to doing the things we promised,” said Lesko, who still intends to move forward with his plan to eliminate the recorder’s office, with those services moving under the county clerk’s authority. Moving forward, Lesko said they will initiate a study, determine the legal steps and prepare for a referendum. He said the move will save the taxpayers at least $250,000 a year. The referendum, according to Lesko, would go before the voters in 2026.
Also sworn in Monday was Coroner Jim Allmon, State’s Attorney John Milhiser, Auditor Andy Goleman and Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch.
