Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Illinois was said to be steady last week.
According to GasBuddy.com, the average cost was $3.39 a gallon as of Tuesday, unchanged from the week prior.
The average price, according to AAA, is $3.41, approximately 1.5 cents higher than this time last week. The state average, in either case, is higher than national average. AAA’s national average is $3.17, while GasBuddy’s is at $3.13.
“While the national average didn’t fall quite as far as anticipated for Memorial Day, it was still one of the most affordable since 2021— and, when adjusted for inflation, among the cheapest in nearly a decade,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in a news release. “As we move into the heart of summer, I believe we’re likely to see a relatively stable stretch for gas prices as refinery maintenance wraps up.”
De Haan says he doesn’t expect the national average to rise above $3.30 a gallon.
In Springfield, gas prices are lower than both the state and national averages, according to GasBuddy. Most stations are close to $3.15, while some are higher.
