SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Millions of tiny bricks take over the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday. Of course – they’re LEGOs. The Brick Convention has places to play and also to check out the creations – “builds,” they call them – from such LEGO luminaries as Tim Hutchings of Bartlesville, Okla.
“My mother-in-law bought my son and I a set in 2010, so I’m kind of a newcomer to it, but I made up for lost time. I’ve been doing conventions and stuff for ten years,” says Hutchings, who was a contestant on Season Four of LEGO Masters on Fox. Among his creations: a scene from a favorite movie, Enter the Dragon (pictured). “They had a party to start the tournament off, and they had all these little activities. I got little sumo wrestlers. I got Bruce Lee in here fighting. We’ve got the masters having tea. This (display) actually fit on the front of a castle.”
Advance tickets ($14.99 plus $2.95 fees) are available here. Admission at the door is $20. The tickets are available for a three-hour block: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.
