Chatham, ILĀ  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Students, faculty and staff gathered in the Glenwood High School common area on Tuesday morning to participate in the grand opening and ribbon cutting of The Legacy spirit wear store on campus.

The operation is entirely student run, and the kids participate as part of their Design and Merchandising class.

Many different disciplines come into play at a grass roots retail level. The kids put into real world practice what they learn about design, products, production, budgets and finance, and marketing.

Mary See is a teacher of Consumer Science at Glenwood. She says the students have worked for over a year and half to bring the project to fruition. About a dozen of the students will operate every aspect of the operation and plan on being open during lunch breaks, after school and during special events.

Marketing director, Senior Hannah Gumbell, says the proceeds will be reinvested into the business for now but they hope to be able to devote funds to worthy community efforts in the future.

You can order merchandise for Glenwood and the Titans at the Legacy Store Facebook page.
