Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s fitting, said Gold Star mother Gay Eisenhauer of Pinckneyville, for the Gold Star Christmas tree to stand in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.
“President Lincoln always spoke about, during the Confederacy, how it was our nation’s responsibility to take care of the fallen soldiers,” Eisenhauer said after a tree-lighting ceremony Monday afternoon.
“These lights are not a symbol of loss, but of life, of love, and of hope,” said Maj. Gen. Rodney Boyd (pictured, left), Illinois’ adjutant general. “May the holidays be filled with light and love and hope.”
The Gold Star Christmas tree will stand in the museum’s entryway, so you will not need to purchase admission to see it.
