Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Illinois Senate Republicans are attempting to blunt what stands to be a week of happy headlines from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

On a Zoom call with reporters, State Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St Charles) quoted Gov JB Pritzker’s mantra of “Democrats Deliver:” “They sure as hell do. They deliver poor academic outcomes, reduced options for families and students across this state.

“They deliver, all right.”

DeWitte and other Republicans continue to criticize supermajority Democrats for failing to renew the Rauner-era private school scholarship program “Invest in Kids.”

Republicans hold no statewide offices, but they say they are prepared to change that in two years.

“In 2026, it’s going to be an election not based on spending, it’s going to be an election based on results,” said State Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville). “Gov Pritzker’s not going to have a good answer.”

During the party’s day at the Illinois State Fair this past week, chairwoman Kathy Salvi said, “We have people who are coming. We have some great people, wonderful future candidates, and we are building the bench. I am really thrilled for the future of the Illinois Republican Party.”
