Governor Pritzker has signed legislation that creates new regulations on funeral homes.
The plan follows the mishandling of human remains by Heinz Funeral home in Carlinville.
The Integrity in Death Care Act requires funeral homes to have an identification system to ensure that remains are not mishandled again.
Under the measure, anyone intentionally violating preparation room procedures and rules could face a Class 4 felony.
The State would also have to inspect funeral homes within 10 business days of a complaint.
