Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A brief hearing was held Monday at the Sangamon County Building for Sean Grayson, who appeared via teleconference. Family members and friends of Sonya Massey were present in the courtroom as the pretrial hearing was rescheduled for March 24.
Grayson will remain in custody as the case awaits a decision from the Illinois Supreme Court. The Court must decide whether to review an appellate court decision that had cleared the way for Grayson’s pretrial release.
The 4th District Appellate Court previously ruled that the state failed to provide clear and convincing evidence that Grayson posed a threat to the community. However, that decision is currently on hold. On Dec. 10, the Supreme Court issued an order pausing the appellate court’s mandate to set conditions for Grayson’s release. If the Supreme Court agrees to take up the case, the appellate court’s ruling will remain on hold until the appeal is resolved.
