Sangamon County, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The wait is over for what will be a $53 million project to overhaul the intersection of Iron Bridge Road and Woodside Road. Groundbreaking (pictured) was Monday morning.

The Interurban Trail and the railroad tracks will go over Woodside and under Iron Bridge. The project is expected to take three to 3 1/2 years. Eventually, MacArthur Boulevard will extend to Woodside, further connecting Springfield with Chatham.

“We do have a detour plan,” said Sangamon County engineer Brian Davis. “Currently, we won’t see much disruption to car traffic for about a 9-12 month period. After that, we hope to have a good portion of the Iron Bridge overpass constructed first.”

Train traffic will use a “shoo-fly” track to go around the construction, and bicycle traffic will not be disrupted at all.
