Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A severe thunderstorm warning was issued at one point Sunday afternoon for part of Sangamon County, and for good reason.

According to weekend storm reports submitted to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a large tree was damaged by a thunderstorm north-northeast of Grandview.  Hail 0.75 inches in diameter was also reported in that area.

Some areas saw heavy rain from thunderstorms Sunday.  A number of areas saw at least an inch of rain Sunday.

From storms last Thursday, heavy rain was the rule.  The largest total was in Morgan County, where 3.82 inches of rain fell.  Several parts of central Illinois saw multiple inches of rain from that storm.

This week’s forecast looks mainly dry in the Springfield area, but rain chances will return Friday and through the weekend.
