Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Regardless of the Wyndham hotel’s future, local leaders are hoping a new hotel, combined with expansion of the BOS Center, can help revitalize downtown.
“Sangamon County recently put out a request for proposals to developers interested in building a multi-level hotel that would have 200-300 rooms,” said Springfield Business Journal publisher Michelle Ownbey during her weekly segment Thursday on the WTAX Morning Newswatch. “The idea is that would be done in conjunction with the expansion of the BOS Center.”
Ownbey said the county is now reviewing four proposals.
And progress is being made on the renovation of the Illinois State Armory. The state plans to reopen it as an executive office building.
“They’re actually going to raise the roof and add the sixth floor, and then they’re going to rework the underground parking structure underneath and repurpose that for mechanical space and storage,” said Ownbey.
“They’ve already done the initial asbestos, mold, and all the remediation earlier this year.”
