Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – As the 103rd Illinois General Assembly enters its final full day, lawmakers just may pass “Karina’s Bill.”

This might have given a judge a chance to disarm Karina Gonzalez’ husband, accused of killing his wife and daughter in Chicago’s Little Village in 2023.

“It’s not okay that some people are concerned more so with the right to have access to guns,” said sponsoring State Sen. Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago). “These are abusers. We are talking about people that are abusing the people that they claim to love!”

Opponents say the bill short-circuits due process. Besides, said State Sen. Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia), “I’m a proponent of bringing back the death penalty, because I think rapists and murderers should be put to death, right?”

HB 4144 has passed the Senate, 43-10, and returns to the House.
