Chatham, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Chatham Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential house fire just after 4:00 Monday afternoon in the 9700 block of Lead Line Road near Loami.

Firefighters found a single residential unit with heavy smoke and flames showing. Everyone in the home was accounted for on arrival.

Firefighters saw the flames and smoke coming from the interior and rear of the structure. Chatham firefighters immediately initiated ‘search and suppression’ efforts.

Chatham firefighters were assisted by Auburn and New Berlin fire departments to bring the situation under control.

While searching the home, firefighters were able to safely rescue the family’s pet cat, and they say the kitty is in good condition.

Authorities say the home sustained major fire, smoke, and water damage and is uninhabitable at this time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
