Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Hundreds of people gathered for a protest rally at the State Capitol on Saturday afternoon to show their opposition to President Trump, Elon Musk and his Dept. of Government Efficiency.

Crowd size was estimated at over 500. Folks carrying hand drawn signs, banners and posters took up all four corners of the intersection of 2nd and Capitol to hear speakers talk about tariffs, the economy, jobs, schools and more.

One speaker, John from Chicago, came as a spectator with a megaphone, but the crowd loved his rhetoric so much they brought him onto the main stage to speak.

Linda Logue, a long-time local activist told the crowd Trumps policies don’t just threaten the economy but democracy itself.

The event was part of an effort to hold rallies around the nation organized by a loose coalition of grass roots organizations calling itself the 50-51 group… standing for 50 rallies in 50 states for one day.
