Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – With the recent loss of food stamp (SNAP) benefits, some households are seriously scared of how, when, and where they will get their next meal.

It’s never a good time to be hungry, which is why The Catholic Charities has been keeping their breadline up and running for the last 96 years. You can come down and grab a meal any day of the year no matter what the weather.

Rain, Sleet, Snow, from Sunday through Saturday, if you need food, they are the place to go.

A guest on our WTAX Morning Newswatch, Patrick McConnel from Catholic Charities, stated that “We are open every day no matter what, even in those super heavy March snowfalls, when the city seems to have shut down, and you can come in and get a lunch or dinner Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday we are open only for lunch”

McConnel also mentioned that they do accept donations and would always love the help from extra volunteers. If you’d like to help the community, this is a great way to do so.

You are guaranteed a meal for your entire household as they currently have the capacity to put out over “4000 meals a day”, according to the numbers given by McConnel. Inflation is really hard to get past, and it is never okay to go hungry. St. John’s Breadline in Springfield has been serving the community since 1928 and would be more than happy to serve you and your family also.

Even if you have people outside of your family, such as a friend or neighbor who is also struggling, bring them along too. No one should ever have to be hungry or scared of when their next meal will come from. Don’t be afraid and come get some grub, The Breadline is waiting for your family today. Just head on over to 430 North 5th St, Springfield, IL 62702 and chow down! You can also contact the breadline at (217) 528-6098 for any questions, or comments you may have.
