Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Two people were injured, but not seriously, after the van they were in hit the Baskin Robbins store near MacArthur Boulevard and Laurel.
It happened around 12:15pm Tuesday, according to Springfield Fire Deputy Division Chief Bryce McCormick.
“There were two…occupants in the van….transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said McCormick. “Nobody was injured inside of either the Baskin Robbins, or the Sterling Tax Services (adjoining it). Everybody was able to get out safely with no injuries.”
McCormick says a quick response from various city departments, and a building company who inspected the structure, made his department’s job very smooth.
“I was not one of the first who arrived on scene, but when I arrived on scene, the police department was already here shutting down the roadway — that’s a major issue operating here, people wanting to see what’s going on and just our proximity to the street,” said McCormick. “Working with SPD and the Fire Department, and Building and Zoning coming out just to look at the buildings, it’s pretty phenomenal how we all get together.”
It’s not clear what caused the accident, nor if any traffic or other citations will be issued.
