Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — As measles cases rise across more than 20 areas in the U.S., the Illinois Department of Public Health has launched a new Measles Outbreak Simulator Dashboard to help schools and families assess potential risks locally.

The tool shows vaccination rates for every public and private school in Illinois and estimates how a case could spread if introduced at a specific school. It uses current enrollment and immunization data and will be updated with 2024–25 figures once available.

According to the IDPH dashboard, schools with the lowest immunization rates in District 186 include:

Sandburg Elementary School – 95.9%

Fairview Elementary School – 96.0%

Early Learning Center – 96.2%

McClernand Elementary School – 97.1%

Jane Addams Elementary School – 97.4%

“I recommend that our Illinois residents make sure that they and their family members are up to date on the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine and all other age-appropriate immunizations,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra.

A major outbreak in Texas and New Mexico has already led to 530 cases and three deaths, prompting concern nationwide. Vohra said two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97% effective at preventing measles.
