Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Just when you thought the state couldn’t think of another way to tax you, there could be.

State Representative Bob Morgan, inspired by a New York lawmaker, wants to tax. at one hundred percent. any money someone receives from a multi-billion-dollar fund set up for those who feel they were mistreated during the January 6th attacks.

“Tax returns are private to begin with, so I’m not sure any new provisions would be necessary there.  I’m all for protecting individual’s privacy,” said Morgan (D-Highwood).  “If they receive any kind of payment from income of other areas, I believe that state law already requires to disclose that.”

Morgan says he’s not looking to make any sort of list of recipients public knowledge, but the income does have to be reported.

The idea for the 100% tax on what Morgan called a “slush fund” by the Trump administration came from Alex Bores, a New York State Assemblyman and candidate for Congress.

“Trump just created a $1.8 billion slush fund to pay off January 6th insurrectionists using your tax dollars,” said Bores, on social media.  “No congressional approval.  No oversight.  Just pure corruption.”

Bores has already introduced his measure in the New York State Assembly.  Morgan calls his Illinois legislation “something the State of Illinois could certainly get behind.”

There’s only one problem.  Bores wants to attach it to the state budget, which has to be approved by end of the current legislation session, which is Sunday, May 31.
