Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Illinois lawmakers are in session. And Senate Minority Leader John Curran (pictured, right) (R-Downers Grove) says that means you should guard your pocketbook.
“One short-sighted cash grab we are expecting the Democratic majority to use this veto session,” said Curran, “is decoupling from some of the newly passed federal tax benefits so they can squeeze a few more dollars out of our already struggling businesses.”
The Republicans also oppose two of the major issues being discussed this week, addressing the energy grid and Chicago area transit.
State Sen. Sue Rezin (pictured, left) (R-Morris), an advocate of nuclear power, said the omnibus energy bill’s permittance of new nuclear construction is not enough to offset the negatives. “That small step forward is completely overshadowed by billions of dollars in new costs and mandates that will make our energy grid weaker, not stronger,” said Rezin, who joined Curran at a statehouse news conference Tuesday. “Illinois could be leading the Midwest in affordable, reliable, and carbon-free power, but instead this proposal puts politics over progress and makes our state less competitive for investment and growth.”
The veto session runs through Thursday.
