Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Under federal orders, approximately 140 Illinois National Guard members are deploying to Washington, D.C. to assist with security operations for the 60th Presidential Inauguration on Monday.
The deployment includes 110 soldiers and 30 airmen, with the majority from the 933rd Military Police Company based in Fort Sheridan and Security Forces Airmen from the 183rd Wing in Springfield, the 126th Air Refueling Wing at Scott Air Force Base, and the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria.
“Supporting the presidential inauguration is a great opportunity for the Illinois National Guard to be part of history and represent the state of Illinois,” said Maj. Gen. Rodney Boyd, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard. “Our Soldiers and Airmen are highly trained, and I have full confidence in their abilities to support the local and federal agencies as needed.”
These troops will be tasked with site security as part of a federal task force. Members of the 5th Civil Support Team from Bartonville and the 126th Air Refueling Wing from Scott Air Force Base will also provide specialized support during the mission. The soldiers and airmen are expected to be on duty for approximately 10 days.
