Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Illinois State Police has a large new vehicle they can deploy to almost any emergency situation that requires it.
The department says it recently took possession of a new, state of the art, command vehicle.
The Freightliner will replace another vehicle almost 20 years ago, and with what troopers say was out of date technology.
It has, State Police say, high definition monitors and cameras, communications technology, ability to access data in real time, and can be made into a large conference room.
“This command vehicle gives us the ability to respond faster, coordinate more effectively, and better serve our communities during critical incidents,” said Brendan Kelly, ISP Director, in a news release. “It’s a mobile operations center that puts technology and leadership exactly where it’s needed most—right on the ground at the scene of the incident.”
It can provide what they call “crucial on-site support” during various incidents.
The vehicle, which will also be on display at various public events, was received from the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Radiological Security.
