SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – On local ballots for Tuesday’s midterm election, there were seats on the Sangamon County Board representing 17 of the 25 districts.

Only three of those seats were contested. And, in the end, the incumbents won.

According to unofficial results from the Sangamon County Clerk’s office, Democrat Reggie Guyton won another term representing District 21, defeating Republican Connie Sebok by about 415 votes.

Representing District 12, Democrat Sheila Feipel defeated Joel Oschwal.  Feipel had 2,220 votes, to Oschwald’s 1,460.

The only seat contested won by a Republican was in District 7, where Rich King defeated Tara Bergschneider, by around 640 votes, 1,596 to 952.

While Democrats are said to control Congress after Tuesday’s election, Republicans won the three seats they were expected to for seats in the U.S. House in Illinois.  Locally, incumbent Mary Miller retained her seat representing the 15th District, besting Democrat Jennifer Todd, with some precincts that were still waiting to be counted as of early Wednesday morning.  Democrat incumbent Nikki Budzinski retained her seat unofficially, defeating Champaign County Board member Jeff Wilson.

Back in Springfield, what was said to be an advisory referendum on a hot-button issue as of late could almost be seen as a mandate, based on the results. Voters Tuesday overwhelmingly supported a registry being developed, according to unofficial figures, 29,077 votes “Yes,” to 12,663 votes “No,” a roughly three-to-one margin.

The landlord registry issues has been contentious, with landlord claiming without data that taxes will be raised. Both sides were accused through their campaigns of spreading misinformation.  Public forums are said to be coming in order to design the ordinance.  Then it would be determined if there would be taxes would be raised.
