(WAND TV) – UPDATE: The standoff has ended and 25NewsNow in Peoria reports one person was taken into custody and transported to the hospital after the 12-hour standoff.

Illinois State Police says a standoff with a motorist has shut down a portion of Interstate 155 for more than 12 hours.

Troopers responded to a motorist assist at milepost 9 near Emden just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. ISP says the driver has refused to leave the vehicle.

ISP says a crisis negotiation team and mental health professional are on scene. There is no one else inside the vehicle.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 155 are closed between exit 6 near Hartsburg and exit 10 near U.S. Route 136.

The public has been asked to avoid the area.
