Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – “It’s Showtime” is the theme for the 2024 Illinois State Fair.

The fair begins Aug. 8. That evening, Illinois 4-H members will serve as grand marshals of the Twilight Parade, which makes its way down Sangamon Avenue from Lincoln Park into the fairgrounds. State ag director Jerry Costello says with FFA members serving as grand marshals last year, you have the future of Illinois farming.

At Monday’s fair preview, both Costello and fair manager Rebecca Clark talked up the renovations – $85 million worth – to infrastructure and buildings. Some of that money went into the venerable Coliseum.

“You’ll see new seating, two elevators, new restrooms, improved ADA accessibility. and heating for winter events,” Costello said.

No air conditioning, though. But there are big fans.

Trams will return, the Gin Blossoms will put on a free show, Grandstand entertainment includes Motley Crue and Miranda Lambert, and there are discount days, too.

The fair in Springfield runs Aug. 8-18.
