(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A late-night disturbance in a Jacksonville municipal parking lot on Saturday has led to multiple arrests.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 200 block of South Sandy Street. Upon arrival, they encountered a large crowd engaged in an altercation. According to a media release from the Jacksonville Police Department, officers learned an individual was observed firing a handgun near the large crowd.
A Jacksonville police officer was injured while attempting to make an arrest during the incident and required medical treatment. Officers from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, South Jacksonville Police Department, and Illinois State Police assisted, along with the Morgan County State’s Attorney.
Following an investigation, multiple arrests were made:
Monaezia S. McGee, 21, was arrested for mob action and was released on a notice to appear per the Safe-T Act.
Deirrea A. Burton, 22, was arrested for aggravated battery to a police officer and was released on a notice to appear per the Safe-T Act.
Marcquila S. Harris, 30 was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm. Harris is being held pending a detention hearing.
