(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Former Sacred Heart-Griffin graduate and current head football coach at Kent State University in Ohio, Kenni Burns is being sued by an Ohio bank. CBS Sports reports Burns failed to make monthly payments to Hometown Bank in Kent for a credit card and exceeded the credit limit on the card. The bank is suing for close to $24,000.
Burns is in his second year as head coach for the Golden Flashes, a position with a starting base salary of $475,000. In a written statement to CBS Sports, Burns said he and his wife are working to swiftly address the matter.
Burns was hired by Kent State, a Division I school, in December 2022 after five years working with the football program the University of Minnesota. Burns played for Indiana University after graduating from SHG.
The Golden Flashes are 0-11 this season after a 1-11 first year under Burns leadership.
